I was thinking about signing up to pay $5 is an ok amount to play this game, but now what the...crackers.

Why do you (we) keep playing ?

After playing CastleVille (actively) for about two months, I noticed this game is definitely different than ALL other games I've ever played for the past......30 years or so, from Collosal Caves (first text-based games) , through the RGP's and Point & Click-era untill today. Graphics are cute, but gameplay is lacking in SO many area's, I wonder how long it will still stay fun enough to keep playing. (Honestly, I'll give it till Christmas, at the MOST).

- There is no energy-increase with level-increase, which EVERY energy-needing game EVER has always had. So, the more you have to do, the less you CAN do, the more frustrating the game.
- There is no balance in the sometimes completely idiot tasks you need to perfom, the effort and materials you put into it, and the lousy reward you get for it.
- The game relies heavily on neighbours, which is a fun concept., BUT there is no way to remove neighbours (or even staff) that don't play anymore (or never even played at all), which makes you need hundreds of neighbours that you can NEVER tend, so you TOO will be a lousy useless staffmember
- There is no communication possible between neighbours back and forth. So, there's nothing you can do about people you have helped hundreds of times (tend buildings, raise unicorns that NEVER EVER do ANYTHING back for you
- These is no real clarity in how many items per sort / in total you can get per day, so it's always a surprise wether you will receive something you desparately need or not
- There is SO much rendering going on in a crammed, crowded large kingdom (neighbours!) that the computer will definitely crash every so many MINUTES, even on a fast computer. So, you will HAVE to be carefull with what you use or don't use in your kingdom, and are not really free to use your imagination.
- There is NO way or button to undo actions that were, in retrospect, not the best thing to do or not even intended and due to computer-hickups.
- The game keeps asking you to invite more and more and more friends / neighbours so you can receive more gifts, but with more than +/- 50 friends and 25 neighbours, those gifst are just wasted and NEVER EVER show up in your inventory.
- The constant refreshing you need to do (because items or buildings never show up or disappear after using them or because the 'magical connection' was broken, or because you visit a neighbour who has crammed his/her kingdom to the very last pixel) and the time it takes to refresh make the game virtually more unplayable when you progress
- There is no 'pause' between quests ; they simply keep popping and popping and popping like diarrhea untill you don't know where to begin, can't keep track anymore of what to do and what's finished, and I'm still waiting for the first Catch 22, that will definitely come up some day as there seems to be very little thinking going into the design.

Well, that's just the tip of the iceberg. If I take the time, I can probably come up with another 40 or so bugs and flaws no other game I ever say has ever had.

Ofcourse I know it's just me. I've never before seen of played a game that THROUGH GAMEPLAY makes it necessary to keep paying money for it, and ofcourse I never will spend a single dime on it with all these bugs and shortcomings, and 'free' players are, ofcourse, not supposed to get a satisfactory gameplaying-experience. I also found out I don't really like the 'never ending'-concept of games. There is no real goal to work to, no real finish, it just seems to go on and on and on with badly thought through quests.

So, why DO I keep playing ? Why does ANYONE keep playing, beause I hear and see these complains all the time - as well as people quitting after a while.

I think beause I don't NEED a goal or finish, just take every quest as a game in itself, and it's a funny passtime. When it no longer is, I simply will quit, like thousands befor me (and like, within two (!!) months more then half of my 'friends'). So far, the fun-part still wins, but the frustration-part is definitely winning terrain daily.

Why do you keep playing ?

Earn unlimited Exploration Crystals by crafting

Hi, this is a long post, but if you read it 'till the end it will help you a lot about rapid progression while playing castleville.
Ok.. lets Begin

As we've already told you, the expansion process in CastleVille is a bit more complicated than in many of Zynga's other games. Even in titles like CityVille, where you're allowed to choose the specific square you expand into, there really isn't any sort of negative consequence that can come from doing so; that is, all expansions require the same things and you won't limit your progress in the game by expanding into one square over another (generally speaking).
In CastleVille, however, where and when you expand have a very real impact on your gameplay, as you may need to wait until your Castle's Level is hundreds or even thousands of points higher than it is currently to access a particular square, or you may need to remove the Gloom over a very specific square to complete a quest. That means that if you just go expanding into any square that looks pretty, or that you currently are allowed to, you'll end up wasting valuable Exploration Crystals, and will literally be stuck with story progression until you can earn more.

Thankfully, there's a very easy to way to do just that. Once you build a Workshop in your town, you'll be able to craft Exploration Crystals outright, using three Crystal Shards each. These Crystal Shards are earned as quest rewards, or can be earned by asking your friends to send you one. This is done by clicking on an area of the Gloom (that is, a square you've yet to expand into) and then clicking on "Post to Friends" to post a request for Crystal Shards on your wall.

Once you have three Crystals (or eventually a stockpile of them), you'll want to then turn your Workshop into a cycle. For each Exploration Crystal you want to make, you'll need three Crystal Shards. A single Exploration Crystal takes 1.5 hours to make, or just 90 minutes. If you have the time to login multiple times per day, and have plenty of active neighbors to send you shards, you can then make a never-ending supply of Exploration Crystals in 1.5 hour increments.

Again, to be clear, these Crystals don't cost any coins to make, and the only resource you're technically out is "time." You'll just want to make sure to post requests for Shards every chance you get, and keep collecting your completed Crystals so that you can make more. It may sound time consuming, but if you form this habit early on, you'll never need to worry about not having enough Crystals for that next expansion! It would be great if we could say that about other Zynga games, but at least this is a great place to start!

Refences..thanks to the guys who created the useful post on their site
blog.games.com

I have also used a new hacking tool to progress faster on castleville, it has helped me earn
1. unlimited amounts of coins
2.ulimited ernergy
3.crowns
as well as reputation hack.

Tired of Bugs!

For two days I have been unable to send "free gifts" to my neighbors. For just as long I have not been able to send "help" requests. Unfortunately I can not continue in the game until this is fixed as without the help some items can not be "crafted" and I am getting rather tired of the waiting.

The feed to the right of the screen that scrolls down "Give" and "Get" items- constantly scrolls down and then immediately items disappear as if they never were there.

Seems like every other week there is a new bug that affects my game but not my children's games and they play on the same computer as I do. The only differences between their games and mine are the level and that I have bought crowns in the past. (I am very hesitant to ever do so again with all the problems- it is a huge waste of time and money... if I paid for it I would hope it would at least work).

I sincerely hope that your I.T. department can get their crap together sooner than later, otherwise my family will all discontinue use of your games.

Kindest regards,
As I've explored more of the grounds my original layout makes it hard to see some things, access others, etc. so I wanted to kind of start with a clean slate then replace everything. I stored as much as I could - but my storage only keeps 300 items. I am going to work on going up to the next level, but I would only be able to store 500 items which would likely still not be enough. Is there any sort of 'redesign' option that allows you to temporarily wipe out your grounds and replace everything?

Loveable characters!

Loveable characters

Castleville outdoes all the other ville games on the visual appeal alone. The artwork is the best I've seen on a flash game, at least online. The characters and avatars actually draw you in and make you care and grow fond of, unline city, farm and frontier.

I'd love to have a few more of these loveable characters ingame -

1. The DUCHESS when we visit the Duke's.
2. A pretty little she-Baz.
3. A farmer character.
4. A hunter character, unlike Tom.
5. An evil knight, black knight, if you will.
6. Another Princess, raven tressed.

And a few more... |)

It would be nice if this exchange worked like Ravenskye City's exchange. That one actually works. The items are classified by topic and people post their request into each category.
I completed Yvette's "Father's Love" line of quests, but ever since, she's just been trying to give me repeat quests. She gave me one repeat, so I did it.. but now she's trying to give me #6 of 10 in the "Father's Love" quests, and I don't want to keep doing her repeat quests. Is this some sort of glitch? Is there anything that can be done?

Choosing Castle sides

Love this game! was wondering what you guys and gals out there think about adding a feature to this game. Instead of having the evil guys come from the computer generated evilness, we could add an option to change sides. Some can play the beautiful fairy type Castle and others could choose to be the evil side. I would love to decorate my Castle with dark evil objects and costumes. What do you Castleville players think ?

Santa's new quests use tons of my precious materials! Is it worth it?

I was soooo hoping to be rid of Santa after Christmas. He's always in my way. He stands in the middle of my crops all the time, regardless of where I place his castle (so I put it in storage, lol). But Santa wasn't even close to being done after we opened our gifts. Now he wants to be launched off his Gift-a-Pult after you repair it. I admit it was really funny the first time the gift-a-pult shot him into the air and he fell back to the ground. But each time you repair it, it's broken again. It takes loads of materials each time to repair the thing and the rewards he's giving me aren't even close to being enough to cover the time put into making all that stuff. I'm on 9 out of 10 of his "More Power" quest now, and AGAIN (!) Santa wants me to use a ton of materials to fix the stupid gift-a-pult. He needs 15 wood planks, 15 stone blocks, and 5 gold bricks, plus one lens! And I've already used SO many materials trying to fix the stupid thing and get rid of him for good. Does anyone know whether it's going to be worth it to continue with this? Am I just going to be given a new quest from Santa when I finish, with more snowmen and useless toys as gifts? If I really thought he'd LEAVE, I'd finish the quest in a heartbeat, but I'm really tired of his crap. I want something that's going to help me, not just busywork with lame rewards and goblins that use up all my energy and break the Gift-a-Pult again and again. What a frustrating quest.

So, after twice being close to enough gold, then having to spend it on quests and such, I was finally able to clear the 2100 castle gloomed area on the top left, and finish my castle wall.
Kingdom design and you...

So, I've started to notice that quite a few of my neighbors, specifically the ones with a fairly high level, don't seem to give decoration and building placement any thought when they build their kingdom. Many have no trees on their de-gloomed land, save for a few around their mills. Personally, I put quite a bit of thought and effort into making my kingdom look, well, like a kingdom. With the exception of the border area for stashing spare trees, and the mining area where I stash spare boulders, every tree, animal, building, and piece of dirt has a place and a purpose. Yeah, it takes some time, but I don't mind. It's also a bit annoying when neighbors spam-click a single tree or boulder into oblivion, if i'm not paying attention when I accept their visit. But in the long run, I take pride in the way my kingdom looks. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment, with the exception of the Toy Shoppe, since it doesn't seem to go with the flow and layout of my kingdom very well. Share your thoughts?

Had quite enough of the inconsiderate spam-clickers putting all 5 clicks on one of my decorative boulders instead of spreading them out, or going to my mining area. And I used to have dead trees around Alastair's house (a side effect of all his magical experiments), but people just loved to take those down in 1 chop.

Priorities when helping neighbors

I'm just curious what everyone's priorities are when helping neighbors, and what they find the most helpful when neighbors help them. I'll start with mine.

When Helping Neighbors:

1. Tend buildings. Not only the most coins you can get helping a neighbor, but also helps them level up their buildings.
2. High value taxing: Anything 60+ coins I'll do next. Good amount of coin for myself and the neighbor. Lower tax rate stuff isn't that beneficial to either.
3. Collecting from crafting buildings. Pays as much or nearly as much as collecting lower taxes, and saves my neighbor 1 energy.

*** If I need to do something specific for a quest, that takes the number 2 spot on my priorities ***
*** If I'm really in bad need of resources, I'll hit boulders or trees, trying not to finish any off for decorative purposes ***

My preferences for my neighbors helping me is pretty much the same. I also like it when people hit my crafting support buildings to shorten times, since they take forever.

So what's y'all's opinions/preferences?

Decorative Resources - please read

I've noticed that when people visit my kingdom and are in need of resources, most simply click on the closest resource they see and click away without thought. However, I spend a considerable amount of time getting resources (rocks and trees, in particular) in just the right spot for decorative purposes. Then some Lazy Larry comes along and spams that tree or rock until it's gone. Frustrating. Yes, I realize I could simply decline their help, but that shouldn't be necessary, as I always leave a few rocks and trees stacked in non-strategic locations for my own personal resource needs, as well as the needs of others. If you absolutely must tap the resource I've got nicely shading the window of one of my cabins, maybe just tag it once and move on to the next? I think it would be nice "visitor ettiquette" to always leave that last hit for the kingdom's owner. Clearly, at 618 castle I'm not in need of that extra hand to clear obstructions out of my way. Thanks, rock on, and keep on visiting! Good to have company while working on the kingdom!

CastleVille - Facebook's Fastest Growing Game

Zynga’s New CastleVille social game, the newest title in a series that has entertained more than 100 million Facebook players, is off to a fast start since its launch six days ago. The game is the latest title aimed at making sure Zynga’s initial public offering, expected after Thanksgiving, stays on track.

Last night, according to internal data from Zynga, CastleVille crossed five million daily active users. By comparison, CityVille, the most successful Zynga game to date, only crossed 3.2 million daily active users six days after its launch, according to AppData.
AppData hasn’t yet updated its numbers on CastleVille and still shows the game at 2.7 million daily active users. But there’s no doubt that the game is growing fast.

CastleVille joins other recent Zynga games, including Empires & Allies, Adventure World, Pioneer Trail (formerly FrontierVille), Words With Friends on Facebook, and Mafia Wars 2. The title mashes up Zynga’s usual cartoon style, which has a wide appeal among Facebook users, with more interesting game play than it has had in the past.

The game was developed by the Zynga Dallas team the company acquired when it purchased Bonfire Studios last year. Bill Jackson, creative director on CastleVille, told us the game has next-generation social features, in a recent interview. Those include faster social interactions and a focus on a player’s reputation for helping others.

In the game, you build your own kingdom. It’s like a combination of Pioneer Trail and CityVille, except in a medieval fantasy setting. Zynga launched the title today in another 17 languages. As such, the game is going to be tough competition for Electronic Arts’ The Sims Social, which has 6.1 million daily active users.

In the global view, CastleVille is clearly a move to hold on to the No. 1 position. About 68 percent of CastleVille players are playing at least twice a day. Zynga says that in six days, 135,176,035 quests have been completed. Players have expanded into new parts of the map (covered by dark Gloom spaces) a total of 4,594,750 times. About 23,845,983 beasties hae been banished. Some 8,262,768 baby cows have been raised. And 182,360 Bubbly Grogs have been crafted.
